These were common dolphins, Delphinus delphis, and were known to be very friendly to humans. Captain Nemo ordered the oarsman to stop rowing, and as we slowly coasted to a stop, one dolphin balanced himself upright in the water and communicated a high-pitched squeal to Captain Nemo. I was awestruck when I heard the captain talk back to the dolphin. Read Panel
